Flea Beetles (Alticinae)
Flea beetles are small, jumping beetles that chew numerous tiny holes in the leaves of vegetable and ornamental plants, causing a distinctive shothole appearance that can stunt young transplants. They are most damaging to seedlings and young plants in spring, with older, established plants tolerating their feeding more easily. Row covers provide physical protection for vulnerable crops, while targeted insecticide applications control active populations. Removing crop debris and weeds reduces overwintering habitat.
