Flesh Flies (Sarcophagidae)
Flesh flies are medium to large flies that breed in carrion, excrement, and decaying organic matter, making them indicators of sanitation issues or a dead animal in a concealed location. Unlike house flies, female flesh flies deposit live larvae rather than eggs directly onto the breeding medium. They can spread pathogens by contaminating food surfaces and are a concern in food service and healthcare settings. Locating and removing the breeding source is the critical first step, followed by residual fly treatments for any remaining adults.
