Hobo Spider (Eratigena agrestis)
The hobo spider is a funnel-web building spider found in the Pacific Northwest that was once considered medically significant, though current research has revised its danger classification. It builds funnel-shaped webs at ground level in dark, undisturbed areas such as window wells, wood piles, and vegetation. While painful, its bite is now considered much less dangerous than previously believed, though it can still cause localized reactions. Perimeter insecticide treatments and eliminating web sites near entry points reduce encounters with hobo spiders.
