Hyperodes Weevils (Listronotus maculicollis)
Annual bluegrass weevils, formerly classified as Hyperodes, are small snout weevils whose larvae are among the most destructive pests of closely mowed turfgrass, particularly on golf course fairways and tees where annual bluegrass predominates. Adults overwinter in leaf litter at turf margins and migrate into turf in spring to lay eggs at the base of grass plants. Larvae feed on stems and crowns, causing irregular yellowing and death of grass plants during the summer months. Timely insecticide applications targeting adult migration and early larval instars provide effective protection.
