Scale Insects (Hemiptera: Coccoidea)
Scale insects are small, immobile sap-sucking pests protected by a waxy or hard shell that makes them highly resistant to many insecticide treatments in their adult stage. The mobile crawler stage, immediately after hatching, is the most vulnerable period for chemical control and the ideal treatment window. They infest a wide range of ornamental trees, shrubs, and houseplants, causing yellowing, dieback, and honeydew-related sooty mold. Targeted crawler sprays, horticultural oils, and systemic insecticides applied at the right timing provide effective, long-term management.
