Ticks (Ixodida)
Ticks are blood-feeding external parasites of mammals, birds, and reptiles that are significant vectors of serious diseases including Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, and anaplasmosis, making them one of the most medically important arthropod pests in North America. They are found in tall grass, brush, and leaf litter, attaching to passing hosts and feeding for hours to days. Prompt, proper tick removal reduces the risk of disease transmission. Yard treatments targeting tick habitats, combined with protective clothing and repellents, significantly reduce exposure risk.
