Blue/Green Bottle Flies (Calliphora & Lucilia spp.)
Bottle flies are metallic blue or green flies known for their attraction to carrion, garbage, and decaying organic matter, where females lay eggs that hatch into maggots. Their presence indoors often indicates a dead animal in a wall void or crawl space, a sanitation issue, or a nearby outdoor breeding source. Beyond being a nuisance, they can transmit pathogens by landing on food and surfaces. Identifying and eliminating the breeding source, combined with fly control treatments, resolves most infestations.
