Bluegrass Billbugs (Sphenophorus parvulus)
Bluegrass billbugs are weevils whose larvae feed on the roots and crowns of Kentucky bluegrass and other turfgrasses, causing patches of dead grass that pull up easily from the soil. Adults emerge in spring and are often seen crossing sidewalks and driveways during migration to turf areas. Damage is most visible in late summer when larval feeding has severed root systems. Preventive insecticide applications in late spring to early summer are most effective against newly hatched larvae.
