Dermestid Beetles (Dermestidae)
Dermestid beetles, also called hide beetles or carpet beetles, are a family of insects whose larvae feed on a variety of animal-based and plant-based materials including hides, feathers, wool, dried meats, and museum specimens. In homes, they damage natural fiber carpets, taxidermy, and stored clothing. Adult beetles are small, often mottled or banded with scales, and feed on pollen outdoors before entering structures. Thorough inspection to find all infested materials, combined with residual insecticide treatments, eliminates active dermestid infestations.
