Elm Leaf Beetles (Xanthogaleruca luteola)
Elm leaf beetles are a significant pest of elm trees, with both adults and larvae feeding on foliage — adults chew through leaves and larvae skeletonize the undersides, giving leaves a lacy appearance before they turn brown and drop. Severe defoliation over multiple seasons can weaken and eventually kill elm trees, reducing the shade and ornamental value of these iconic trees. Trunk-injected systemic insecticides and foliar sprays applied in spring as larvae begin feeding provide reliable protection.
