Fall Webworms (Hyphantria cunea)
Fall webworms build large, silken webs at the ends of tree branches in late summer and fall, enclosing foliage within the web as larvae feed. They attack over 100 species of deciduous trees and shrubs, with heavy infestations producing unsightly webs across entire canopies. While defoliation late in the season rarely causes lasting harm to healthy trees, heavy attacks on weakened trees can add stress. Pruning and destroying infested branches or applying insecticides at early larval stages prevents significant damage.
