Ground Beetles (Carabidae)
Ground beetles are largely beneficial predators that feed on soil-dwelling pests including cutworms, slugs, root maggots, and weed seeds, making them valuable allies in gardens and agricultural fields. They are nocturnal and spend the day hidden under rocks, logs, and debris. Most species do not damage plants and rarely enter homes. Preserving ground cover, mulch, and stones provides habitat that encourages beneficial ground beetle populations and reduces the need for insecticide use.
