Leather Beetles (Dermestes spp.)
Leather beetles are stored product and fabric pests whose larvae feed on dried animal-based materials including leather, hides, hair, feathers, and dried meats. They are commonly found in old taxidermy, stored animal trophies, woolens, and occasionally in pet food. Their damage often appears as irregular surface feeding on leather goods and is sometimes mistaken for fungal damage or mechanical wear. Thorough inspection of all animal-based materials, combined with targeted residual treatments, eliminates active infestations.
