Lesser Grain Borers (Rhyzopertha dominica)
Lesser grain borers are one of the most destructive primary pests of stored grain globally, boring into whole kernels and feeding from within, reducing grain quality and triggering secondary fungal and mite infestations. They are strong fliers and can rapidly reinfest cleaned storage facilities from outside sources. Their flat, cylindrical shape allows them to hide in the smallest crevices of grain storage equipment. Fumigation of infested grain, combined with thorough cleaning and residual insecticide treatments of empty storage facilities, provides effective management.
