Oleander Moths / Polka-Dot Wasp Moth (Syntomeida epilais)
The oleander moth caterpillar is a distinctive orange and black larva that feeds exclusively on oleander plants, sometimes causing significant defoliation of these popular ornamental shrubs in warm climates. Despite being vivid and alarming in appearance, the caterpillars are harmless to humans. Light infestations can be controlled by hand-picking, while heavier infestations may warrant targeted insecticide applications. As oleander itself is toxic, care should be taken when handling affected plant material.
