Seed Bugs (Lygaeidae)
Seed bugs are a family of plant-feeding insects that feed primarily on the seeds and occasionally the foliage of a wide range of plants. Several species, including the elm seed bug, become significant nuisance pests when they invade homes in large numbers in summer and fall to escape heat or seek overwintering sites. While they do not bite, cause structural damage, or reproduce indoors, their large numbers and musty odor are bothersome. Sealing entry points and applying exterior perimeter treatments in early summer prevents mass indoor invasions.
