Silverfish (Lepisma saccharina)
Silverfish are fast-moving, wingless insects covered in silver scales that thrive in high-humidity environments such as bathrooms, basements, and attics, where they feed on starchy materials including paper, book bindings, wallpaper paste, and natural fabrics. They are elusive, nocturnal, and highly resilient, capable of living for years and surviving periods without food. Their feeding can damage irreplaceable books, documents, and photographs over time. Dehumidification, sealing entry points, and targeted residual insecticide applications in harbourage areas provide effective long-term control.
