Sugar Ants (Various species including Camponotus consobrinus)
Sugar ant is a colloquial term used for any small ant species attracted to sweet foods, most commonly odorous house ants and pavement ants in the U.S., but specifically referring to banded sugar ants in Australia. They invade kitchens and pantries in long foraging trails following pheromone paths to sweet food sources. While they cause no structural damage and do not sting, food contamination and large indoor numbers are significant nuisances. Professional perimeter baiting programs that exploit their social feeding behavior eliminate colonies at the source.
