Striped Oakworms (Anisota seneratoria)
Striped oakworms are the caterpillars of royal moths that feed in groups on oak foliage during late summer, with orange-brown and yellow-striped larvae capable of defoliating branches and entire small trees during peak feeding periods. They have large horns on their head and chewing mouthparts that produce audible sounds during heavy infestations. While late-season defoliation rarely kills healthy oaks, it weakens them going into winter. Targeted insecticide applications when larvae are young and groups are still concentrated provide the most effective control.
