Cellar Spiders (Pholcidae)
Cellar spiders, sometimes mistakenly called daddy long legs, are long-legged spiders that build loose, irregular webs in dark, damp areas like basements, cellars, and crawl spaces. They are harmless to humans and actually prey on other insects and spiders, including more dangerous species. Despite their beneficial nature, their persistent web-building can be unsightly. Regular web removal and reducing moisture levels in basements minimize their presence without the need for chemical treatments in most cases.
