June Beetles / June Bugs (Phyllophaga spp.)
June beetles, also called June bugs or May beetles, are large, clumsy flying beetles attracted to lights on warm spring and summer nights, often buzzing against windows and screens in large numbers. Adult beetles feed on tree foliage while their larvae — white grubs — live in soil and feed on grass and plant roots for two to three years before completing their life cycle. The adults themselves cause limited damage, but larval grub feeding can cause significant turf damage. Exterior lighting management reduces adult nuisance while soil treatments address the larval stage.
