Palmetto Bugs (Periplaneta americana & P. fuliginosa)
Palmetto bug is the regional name used in the southeastern U.S. for large cockroach species, primarily the American and smokybrown cockroach, that thrive in the warm, humid climate of states like Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. They are commonly found in trees, palm fronds, and gardens but readily invade homes, particularly during hot or dry weather. Like all cockroaches, they carry bacteria and allergens and contaminate food and food preparation surfaces. Perimeter treatments, exclusion, and addressing moisture issues provide the most comprehensive control.
