Pine Sawflies (Diprionidae)
Pine sawflies are the larvae of non-stinging wasp relatives that feed in groups on pine needles, consuming entire needle clusters and capable of stripping branches bare in short order during outbreak years. Young larvae feed together, making early detection and treatment highly effective before populations disperse. Several species attack different pine species across North America. Insecticide applications targeting young larval clusters during their feeding period protect ornamental and landscape pines from significant defoliation.
