Rice Weevils (Sitophilus oryzae)
Rice weevils are small, reddish-brown weevils that are primary pests of whole grain commodities including rice, wheat, corn, oats, and barley, boring into whole kernels to lay eggs and developing entirely inside the grain. Their concealed development means infestations are often not discovered until large numbers of adults emerge. They are strong fliers and can infest homes from nearby granaries or poorly sealed grain products. Fumigation for heavily infested stored grain and targeted residual treatments for storage facilities provide effective control.
