Sowbugs (Porcellio scaber)
Sowbugs are crustaceans closely related to pillbugs that feed on decaying plant matter and play a beneficial role in organic decomposition, but become nuisance pests when they invade homes in large numbers seeking moisture. Unlike pillbugs, sowbugs cannot roll into a ball. They require very high humidity to survive and typically die quickly indoors. Reducing exterior moisture sources, removing decaying plant debris from against the foundation, and applying perimeter barriers effectively prevents indoor invasions.
